KABAR Mark 2 Knife
This KABAR Mark 2 Knife is from the early 1940's. It features a high-carbon steel blade with the classic stacked leather handle and steel pommel. The 7 inch blade is very sharp and has two fullers (one on each side) with a nice clear tang stamp, which reads "KA-BAR Olean, N. Y."
The blade has all original patina with some very light pitting. It has been lightly sharpened and has almost all of its original profile. The stacked handle is super tight and has a few dents or dings in the leather, but very minor.
KABAR produced a few variations of pommels during WW2, and this one is the round peened version, as shown in photo.
The sheath is very interesting, as it has some type of knot work around the top and it is very tightly woven to the sheath, as it won't seem to budge. My guess is that this might have been from someone who served on a ship in the Navy, as this type of work was a traditional adornment by naval service men.
The keeper strap and brass snap on the sheath have been replaced. Overall condition of knife and sheath is very good. Over 70 years old, this is a great piece if you're into collecting military knives.
